What is the Bowen Technique?

Bowen Technique is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that is revolutionising health care world wide. Over the last 45 years, it has successfully helped thousands of people suffering from a wide variety of conditions.

The Bowen Technique consists of a very precise sequence of moves at specific points on the client's body.  The therapist gently manoeuvres the muscles or tendons resulting in a general feeling of well-being and pleasant Bowen Techniquerelaxation. But that is only the beginning.  The body’s natural healing responses are triggered and improvement is usually experienced within a few days.

Restoration and Relaxation

THE BOWEN TECHNIQUETM a method of enabling the body to restore itself.  It allows the body to do the work required without imposing the will of the therapist onto the patient.

The patient has the opportunity to relax and allow the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments which help to rebalance, relieve tension and reduce pain.

The Bowen technidue is a very subtle – and highly effective – therapy that can be used to treat a wide range of conditions. It is particularly suitable for skeletal, joint and muscle problems, as well as for babies and children.

Two or three treatments, usually at weekly intervals are often sufficient, each treatment lasting about 45 minutes.  The technique is non-invasive, does not involve the use of messy oils, or searching consultations, nor is it necessary to believe in anything.  It is often unnecessary for the patient to undress, as the treatment is equally effective through light clothing.

The initial reaction of those who have received treatment is often one of disbelief, amazement and even scepticism, as the actual technique consists of such gentle moves that it cannot be considered in any way manipulative.

What Conditions can be Helped by the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen Academy of Australia

THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE was pioneered by Mr Tom Bowen of Victoria, Australia in the 1950s.  He alone treated an incredible 13,000 patients a year, 90% of whom only required two or three treatments.

Oswald Rentsch, an osteopath and his wife Elaine studied under Tom Bowen and were commissioned by him to document his work.  Ossie and Elaine have subsequently been responsible for the formation of The Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia.  They have introduced the technique into many countries world-wide, with the UK being the most recent to discover the power of this remarkable therapy.
